There are three things every woman entrepreneur needs to do to set herself – and her business – up for maximum success.
As a business owner and someone who works with and counsels women entrepreneurs every day, I’ve had the opportunity to observe what behaviors can hold them back and what can propel them forward. Over the years, I’ve learned that, no matter what kind of business they run, there are three things every woman entrepreneur needs to do to set herself – and her business – up for maximum success.
- Learn to Ask
First, you need to ask for you what you want. It sounds pretty basic, but women in particular often have a hard time doing this. But it’s really important because it’s the first step to getting what you want.
- Learn How to Deal with “No”
Of course, when you do ask for what you want, the answer isn’t always going to be “yes,” so it’s important to learn how deal with “no.” You need to understand that “no” just means “no” (although sometimes it means “not right now”). You can’t attach more meaning to it than that. And remember, the more times you hear “no,” the more likely you’ll eventually hear “yes.”
Women are natural multi-taskers. But focus is critical, and it can be extremely difficult to do this in today’s high-distraction world. I recommend taking one hour a week – turn off your email, phone, etc. – and make a list of all the things you have to do. Then, pick three things to work on for the day and don’t go beyond those three things. If you’re just starting out, I recommend that you focus on those things – the “low-hanging fruit” – that will make the money you need to grow.
While these three things are pretty simple in principle, you may find them hard to do in practice. The more you do them, the better you’ll get until they become second nature.
